The Brocaw Blazers
Overland Park, Lee’s Summit & the Northland.
Any young athlete wanting to become a better runner is encouraged to be a part of the Brocaw Blazers. Practices and meets are not required, but they are encouraged. Our practices for youth ages 6-14 last no longer than 45 minutes. We had athletes involved in 10 different sports last year. Our coaches work with the parent(s) to make sure that young athletes are having fun and learning more about proper technique while working around their other sports.
Supporting Local Youth
The KC Running Club is affiliated with the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA). The RRCA launched Kids Run the Nation, a gender inclusive running program which KCRC is currently using in some area schools. KCRC provides the schools with curriculum, student books, and incentives that allow them to educate and encourage youth to run and implement a program. The curriculum covers all fundamentals of running and meets the Physical Activity Guidelines set forth by the USDA. This program is not just for schools. KCRC can assist clubs and other groups interested in making running a part of their program. Support can be provided for new or already established youth programs.
In KCRC’s efforts to support youth running programs, an ongoing collection drive is taking place for new and gently used singlets, short/long sleeve shirts, shorts, pants, jackets, hats, gloves, water bottles, shoes, and socks. Bins are set up outside the basement door of the KCRC Clubhouse at 208 West 79th Street, KC MO, 64114. You can also contact a board member or email@example.com to make a donation. By donating you are helping many kids who cannot afford shoes and gear to have an enjoyable experience, and providing motivation toward establishment of a healthy lifestyle and life-long sport. KCRC also provides discounted or free entries for youth programs to participate in KCRC owned races.
KCRC maintains an ongoing list of local youth running groups and welcome youth at any of our group runs, interval training sessions, and many of the various other programs offered at the KC Running Club. If you have local youth that would be interested in running but don’t have the resources needed, or you would just like some more information about youth running, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
