SUMMARY:Together As One Run
DESCRIPTION:A running and walking event planned for April 21 in Parkville will help families offset the increasing cost for kids to participate in team sports.    The Together as One Fun Walk/Run will be held in English Landing Park on April 21. There are three events—a 5K run that begins at 8:00 a.m.\, a 1 Mile Fun Run that starts at 8:45\, and a ½ Mile Run that also begins at 8:45 a.m. Awards will be given in the 5K\, including top male and female in each groups. There will also be an award in the 5K for the top 5 placing male and female high school participants.    The Fun Walk/Run is sponsored by Together as One\, a not-for-profit whose sole purpose is to provide sports scholarships for youngsters who have a strong interest in organized sports but lack the financial ability to join teams or leagues.    “The cost of competitive sports is increasing to the point that many kids cannot afford to play\,” said race organizer Dan Morton. “For many families the costs associated with supporting their children as they work their way from recreational to club sports can be staggering. For most sports\, a competitive team can cost each player between a thousand and two-thousand dollars a year and continues to go up.
