In July 1905 Charley Melvin, an avid prohibitionist recently released from a mental asylum, stole 1,500 sticks of dynamite and blew up 3 saloons in downtown Iola, Kansas. The 12:26 AM blast was felt 12 miles away and sent political shockwaves through the state and nation. Iola annually commemorates this historic event with the Mad Bomber Run, a 5K run / 3K walk that begins at the site of the dynamited saloons. The fun starts on the evening of Friday, July 13th with the race beginning with a BOOM at 12:26 AM on Saturday, July 14.
This will be our 4th year, last year we had over 800 registered participants.
