Brew Ha Ha Feb 9th!
The next Brew Ha Ha is Thurs. Feb 9th, 6-9pm at Granite City Tavern at Zona Rosa. Free appetizer pizza and Granite City is offering up $6. pitchers of beer. We will have give aways and raffle items! This is a short drive across the river and will be well worth it. Need Motivation? Go To “Running On Solid Ground”.
Let Kansas City Track Club (KCTC) assist you with one of your New Year’s Resolutions, “Eat better, avoid injury, train in inclement weather, run through the mental blocks, run a marathon, or simply improve your fitness level as KCTC presents “Running on Solid Ground.” This five series program on Thursday evenings will be conducted at the Kansas City Plaza Library’s (4801 Main Street, Kansas City, MO 64112) Large Conference Room from 6:30-7:30 PM with a social following each event at Spin Pizza (4950 Main St, Kansas City, MO 64112). Spin Pizza has been kind enough to extend a 10% discount to KCTC members on the dates of each clinic. Events are free and open to the public. We will raffle a Road ID gift certificate!January 12th, Garry Gribble will discuss dressing for the weather and safety. The Norwegians have an expression, “there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.” Come and have your questions answered on winter attire to ensure you are training no matter what the weather brings.
January 26th, nutritionist Shannon Beattie and Mindy Coolman will present “Running Nutrition” as they discuss improving performance and health via diet. Attend and have your questions answered on sports drink or not, post workout diet, carbo-loading, etc.”
February 23rd, Dr. Tom Cotter presents “Running Form/Running Trends.” Gain efficiency in your stride and hear about the benefits of minimalist running.
March 1st, Dr Tom Cotter and Brad McCleary present “Injury Prevention/Performance Enhancement/Physiological Effects.” Come and get the most current medical research to minimize injury while simultaneously improving performance for your spring race.
March 22nd, Andy Jacobs, a sports psychologist helps runners improve motivation and to develop a strong mind. Andy has a talk show on radio 810WHB at 7am on Sundays. Prepare for this spring and for years to come in a promising fun filled event.

You Don’t Need to Leave Home For RRCA State Championships
KCTC’s St Pats 4 Miler, Brew To Brew & Cliff Hanger have all been named as State Championship Races by the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA). According to the RRCA: “The goal of the RRCA Championship Event Series is to shine a spotlight on well-run events and to award top performing runners in the open, masters (40+), grand masters (50+), and senior grand masters (60+) categories for both men and women at the National, Regional, and State level to RRCA member clubs and events to promote the sport of distance running.” -
Alan Poisner Does It Again!
Alan Poisner, long time member of KCTC is the USATF National Race Walk Committee’s Race Walker of the Year for his age division (age 75-79). He won a gold medal at the USATF Indoor, 3,000-meter walk in Albuquerque in March, took gold at the National Senior Games in Houston in June (1500 meters and 5K); and earned three golds at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Sacramento in July (5,000 meters, 10k and team 10k). Congratulations to one of our own on such a wonderful accomplishment!

New Years Day Run 10am
Don’t miss an opportunity to start your year off right at the KCTC New Years Day Run 10am, Athletic Club of Overland Park. This year the route will go West on the trail. Run as far as you like and KCTC will have up to 10 miles marked. Free coffee and donuts indoors at the Club after you run! This event is free and there is no registration. Just show up and sign a waiver! -
WNR at Bella Napoli
Some of the runners and friends enjoying the food and half price wine specials after a run on the Trolly Trail. Even though the day started off below 20degrees, shorts were seen by evening.

Beginning Runners Class
Beginning Runners Class: The spring session will begin Mon, Jan 23, 2012, and will be led by Lou and other club members. The classes are free to all current Track Club members and members can attend as many sessions as you like. There are ten weekly runs, each lasting from 5:45 pm to 7:15 pm at Garry Gribble’s Running Sports, Ward Parkway Shopping Center. Let us help you with your New Years Resolutions! Three MO Age Group Records at Cliff Hanger!

Three very fast and classy ladies set MO State Age Group records at the 2011 KCUMB Cliff Hanger according to records guru, Mike Lundgren.Audrey Smith 9 yrs in the 5K and Kathy Johnson and Cindy Cameron in the 8K. Cindy and Kathy were also RRCA MO State Champs in the 8K. You can check the latest updated awards standings and all results by clicking the Race Results tab above.

Another Wonderful KCUMB Cliff Hanger 5K/8K
The weather on Sunday morning was perfect for some very fast times on beautiful Cliff Drive. Runners in the Elite Start were flying. Almost 1100 runners and walkers enjoyed the course and the pancakes. The 8K was an RRCA State Championship event. You can check the Award Results by clicking here.
